Emergency Drill Thank you

9/7/9

To the editor,

I want to publicly thank the Adrian police and fire departments, Addison, Clayton, Madison, Raisin Township, Tecumseh fire departments and Lenawee Community EMS which all took part in the full-scale exercise this past Wednesday.

In addition, I want to recognize the contributions of Anderson Development for the use of their properties where the exercise took place. Thank you Chemtura management and staff, particularly Mr. Joe Thatcher {Safety Director} for his time in assisting in the planning of this exercise. The Lenawee Intermediate School District proved to be invaluable to the exercise as they provided students to fill the role of “victims” for the event and police explorers who provided perimeter security. The LISD media classes provided videographers at each site so that all the activity could be captured and used by all as an educational tool.

My thanks to ProMedica Health System for their role in the exercise, providing decontamination sites at both Herrick and Bixby medical centers as well as providing an air transport unit. Thank you to Bogies Express for providing the chemical tanker which added realism to the drill.

An event of this nature is a massive undertaking requiring months of planning and would be impossible without the shared vision, partnering and collaboration from the various public safety and health care sectors. This was an outstanding educational experience that would not have been possible without you. I sincerely thank all those who participated in the exercise and many more who gave of their time behind the scenes during the planning stages and to those who worked in support functions during the exercise.

Curtis Parsons

Lenawee County Emergency Coordinator
